300k would get you an ok condo or a tiny house on a busy road in an iffy neighborhood
where I live. It's fine with me, I don't want one of those brick monstrosities sitting on too much lawn.

It still is in some places...I think it would be interesting to look at lower levels like $225-275,000.

Like maybe four years ago. 300k seemed extravagant, now it seems impossible. Ugh

My hometown of Media, PA. A desirable suburb about 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia.

As you can see $300k doesn't take you that far these days in most nice suburbs.

Not going to just share the most that you can get for $300,000 in Raleigh, but a variety of homes based on specific location. The closer you are to the city center, the less house you are going to get, and vice versa. I suppose that's typical for most of the cities in the US.

This first one is a townhouse in the city itself, but its in a well established and desired suburban north side.

This second one is in the rapidly gentrifying east side of downtown. It's a small SFH that's been renovated.

This third one is a single family home in the southern suburbs. It has a Raleigh address but it's out in the county and not in the city. It sits on more than an acre, and is probably a 25 minute drive to downtown Raleigh. Like the suburban Charlotte examples, you can get a lot of house if you don't mind being in the burbs.

This last one is large 1 bedroom condo in downtown Raleigh in a building with all the amenities including a gym, community room and rooftop pool. It's next door to a massive new development that will bring a grocery store, shops, offices and 800 more residences to its neighborhood in 2020.

In the Chicago area you can find plenty of homes for 300k. Not even worth posting.
