Maine and North Carolina are obvious standouts to me. I love the look and vibe of Maine more, but NC gets points for diversity: mountains, ocean, and everything in-between. (Not like Maine doesn’t have mountains and an ocean though)

I don't really associate any eastern state with the word beautiful frankly (assuming this is about natural beauty). I am not saying the east coast is ugly, just not really all that beautiful.

NC has the tallest Mountains, Foothills/Piedmont, Sandhills, wide Coastal plain with swamps, and enormous sounds, the Outer Banks, and 3 substantial capes (Cape Fear, Cape Lookout, and Cape Hatteras), plus fauna associated with trees of the highlands, the gentility of the dogwoods and azaleas across most of the state, the piney forests of the Sandhills, and palms in the southern lowlands.

I understand that the East Coast states have similarities as they transition from north to south, and that none of these things are unique to NC; I just think that NC has the widest variety of east coast attributes and some unique ones to boot in one singular state.

There are many, many beautiful areas. States with mountains, have plenty of flat areas that are nothing close to beautiful. I think you have a bias, or, you've never spent much time in the eastern half of the US. Not all of it is beautiful, certainly, but many parts are.

That's clearly not an objective take at all, to the point that I'm wondering if you're serious, lol. I've traveled the U.S. extensively for decades. You either haven't been to the East or have some sort of strange bias or axe to grind. Every state in every region has its distinct beauty.

People born and raised on the west coast who haven't explored much of the East Coast often think there is no beauty here.

I guess it’s relative. I didn’t grow up in the desert part of CA, but the desert Southwest is my happy place. That doesn’t mean I or anyone else can’t think the east has pretty spots, it’s just not necessarily everyone’s ideal spot.

The coast is stunning, Acadia has no counterpart on the east coast, Katahdin is the prettiest peak east of the Mississippi in my opinion, and there is nowhere on the east coast (no, not even the Adirondacks) that is as remote and untouched as Northern Maine woods/Allagash area. So Maine gets my vote.
I was going to write something up on why I voted for Maine, but this seems about right to me and I'm feeling a bit lazy so I'll just quote it. Also, the quaint fishing villages with fog banks that roll in. Yeah, Maine.

I would say I probably would have voted NY number two, but have actually been swayed by the NC crowd. Somehow I have not been to the Outer Banks (been about everywhere else there) so maybe that would have pushed it over the edge.
