I agree that while the Economist does put out quality information they failed in this report, which is nonsense.
For whatever reason, people in the Asia forum are swearing by this report, saying that Singapore is the most expensive city in the world, as if real estate in NYC, London, Hong Kong, etc. isn't more expensive.
No one's saying Singapore's particularly cheap. But the Economist itself admits that the main reason why Singapore is ranked the most expensive in the world is because of car costs. CAR COSTS. They keep fixating on CAR COSTS even though Singapore is very walkable and transit-oriented, with an extensive and rapidly growing subway. Then they go on to say that Singapore has relatively inexpensive groceries, cheaper than NYC, for example. Well duh, if I live in Singapore I'm going to care much more about buying groceries than buying a car.
This is just one example of this list's absurdity. Many others can be found.
