With the southern portion of the Beltline in Atlanta moving forward, many of the parcels surrounding it are gaining redevelopment attention. I'm very interested to see how this area develops in the future and whether the young black professional population will embrace it.
It's crazy how expensive Atlanta has become lately. I look up apartments and it's becoming more and more clear that DC has a lot more value and housing options available. From what I'm seeing on multiple housing sites, DC has cheaper options in walkable neighborhoods that are connected to transit than Atlanta does. The ceiling for prices in Atlanta is lower and the floor is higher in DC, but I'm just finding a ton more options in DC overall.

Why do you think the cost of living in Atlanta has jumped so high recently? Looking around the country, I don't think many areas have seen a jump in COL compared to Atlanta. Atlanta rents are actually comparable to DC now. DC has been very deliberate in the amount of new housing built over the last decade which has helped tremendously to keep the rent of new apartments in check. Are salaries high enough to pay those high rents in Atlanta? Clearly someone is paying them.
It's gotta be investors. I have heard from a few Blacks moving back up north from ATL over recent years. Wages have alot to do with it, but the rent has matched DC's and exceeded Chicago's. Think my cousin and his fam are staying put for now, but they live in Alpharetta.
I took some pictures of the construction at the St. Elizabeth East Campus in Ward 8. The eventual development will have 5 million sq. feet of development surrounding the Congress Heights metro station in DC.

I'm considering a move to Atlanta and can't believe how expensive it is these days. I've been looking at apartments but don't see anything for less than $1700-$1800 for a 1 bedroom. It's just as expensive as Chicago is for the most part.

Really I’m on Trulia right now… I don’t see any prices that high for a 1BR.
Everything I see is 1050-1550
