Yeah I remember reading about famous Civil Rights leaders driving on boring highways in Atlanta in school.

Fun fact: The Martin Luther King National Historic site is located right on 285 going towards downtown. If you drive too fast you'll miss it. *sarcasm*

Quick update on this project that I'm pretty excited about. It is on a former commercial corridor that is seeing a lot of development projects join the pipeline. It is walking distance to the Greater Downtown Ward 7 area, but these types of projects are needed to provide neighborhood serving retail and amenities in predominantly Black neighborhoods attracting thousands of new middle-class Black professionals. Local Black owned coffee shops also provide gathering places for the community.

"The D.C. Zoning Commission earlier this month approved a map amendment for 4726 Sheriff Road NE, paving the way for the nonprofit Medici Road's project. Map amendments are re-designations of a particular property, often to allow for higher density development."

"The Deanwood project includes 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail topped by 30 multifamily units, 10 of which will be reserved for households earning up to 60% of the median family income."

"The development team has cobbled together financing from multiple sources, including a $1 million loan from Capital Impact Partners' $20 million Diversity in Development DMV Loan Fund, a $250,000 pre-development loan from the D.C. Green Bank and crowdfunding.

The project was last estimated at $11 million, but rising inflation and material costs have likely pushed it higher. Some other forms of financing are being secured, Jackson said."

"The grocery store and coffee shop users haven't been made public, Jackson said."
