I lived in all three for a number of years and enjoyed living in all three but my favorite is LA. I find it's in another league from the other two. Cultural amenities, shopping and dining, entertainment, nightlife, recreational amenities, Mediterranean climate and endless Pacific Ocean at your feet make it my favorite. Professional sports and its top notch facilities are also great. And even the entertainment industry makes it a special place imo. As far as architecture goes DC has that historic uniformed architecture in places. Tons of newer uninspired office buildings, hotels and apts. Seattle is kind of so so but has some bright spots like Capitol Hill. LA to me has lots of beautiful historic architecture, mid century modern, art deco and just about everything else including ugly. The people of each city I find LA and Seattle the friendliest. DC people in my experience, snooty, status conscience and uptight. Crime I did a simple lookup on Best Places. net. In violent crime and property crime Los Angeles was the safest, followed closely with Seattle. DC was third and not close behind Seattle.
If you like nonstop sun, urban beaches, eateries, driving and the Entertainment industry then LA
If you like drizzle in winter, volcanoes, ferries, modern architecture and grunge then Seattle
If you like humidity, politics, social class, and a self important feeling of being in the country’s capital then DC
LA is much bigger so in a different league when it comes to amenities, and much more Hispanic. Seattle is decent for its small population and has a touch of East Asian influence. Food in DC is pretty meh.
Nightlife I will say LA >> Seattle > DC
The nice parts of LA are much more expensive than the nice parts of Seattle though.
