This simply isn’t true at all. Most of the cultural amenities even a lot of the high income luxury amenities are not in Scottsdale but in Phoenix proper.
I never claimed that Scottsdale had more high-end/luxury amenities than Phoenix but that Scottsdale seems to have more of that element than St. Petersburg.
Quote:
Scottsdale is definitely not a cultural or artsy hub. Just saying as a native who has lived in Scottsdale before for parts of my life since birth I don’t know where people are getting this from but it’s false. Scottsdale is mostly a rich snowbird community, but the locals who do live there mostly use it as a richer bedroom community who usually do not work in Scottsdale, but in Phoenix or parts of the East Valley.
I’d argue there’s not truly a St Pete comparable in Phoenix, but if there was one, it’d be Tempe. Tempe is not necessarily wealthier but is more urban and has more of the cultural and artsy amenities, second only to Phoenix proper. Tempe also has a more independent identity, rather than just being the rich suburb of Phoenix. That’s key as St Pete does have a more independent identity from Tampa than many other parts of the metro. Tempe even despite the university doesn’t lose close to 70% of its local business revenue during the off-season like Scottsdale does. Florida has a similar snowbird dynamic to Arizona I feel but I’m extremely doubtful St Pete takes that much of a business hit during the slow season.
This is why I like Tempe. And I have considered moving closer to my family in Florida. I told them if I did, it would be St Pete. I wouldn’t live directly where they are because I find it too small for my liking (Sarasota).
I guess I need to give the Scottsdale tourism department props here, the marketing is false but it’s working I suppose.
So you're saying all these write-ups about Scottsdale's arts scene are completely made up and nobody has called the folks who write such lies to the carpet? How is that even possible?
I wouldn't move to either one. Savannah is a sad place to live with the area flooded by thousands of tourist who why they are there I don't understand. The bugs and humidity are horrible.
Try Wilmington NC, Va.Beach or Richmond.
Savannah is a beautiful and charming city but because St. Petersburg is in the Tampa Bay region there are more options for restaurants, night life, entertainment etc. Downtown St. Pete has been undergoing a transformation in the last few years and it has really turned out beautiful. Lots of new restaurants, residences and the art scene there is dynamic. Downtown Tampa is experiencing a $3 billion dollar development on the waterfront (look up Water Street Tampa) so the city of Tampa is changing too. In addition the Tampa Riverwalk was completed a couple of years ago and that has increased the amount of activity, (lots of new restaurants) and festivals/concerts and other events in the downtown area.

We are comparing Tampa and Saint Pete alone, which makes more sense for a comparison. Savannah can hold its own against Saint Pete, but not against the entire metro. That's no different than me comparing Marietta and Tampa claiming that Marietta offers more because of metro Atlanta's amenities.

I agree with most of this. Savannah cannot compete with the region.
