When you say a city has more hotel rooms vs another.... you should provide the stats. Uber is also so big today over taxis.

Stats for hotel rooms is soooo hard to get with all the hotels advertising over giving me stats. So you should GIVE US THE STATS for your CLAIMS. Not that I want to argue over them. Just only fair if you say DC has more.

I tried to get the Hotels room totals for downtown Chicago and of course. It does not give me downtown boundaries for the downtown used. If just the Loop that is off. Does it include the West Loop or South Loop not officially downtown?

Anyway this is the ONE link for the Chicago Tribune from 2017 that says how many rooms downtown Chicago will have available in downtown alone.

The additional rooms coming in 2017 will bring the city's total to --- 44,000 downtown. With 3000 that were coming on line just in 2017 alone. What the limits of downtown are for these stats are not given. I know what the city defines as Chicago's CBD which fits for downtown for me and most. Still did they include just outside of the official downtown CBD like West Loop having many new ones or South Loop etc.?

https://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...229-story.html

Still the following years new hotels kept coming. This year the Luxury Hotel in the latest SuperTall - Vista Tower. Did not come on line yet. I read some in the West Loop came on this year.

If one does all Chicago.... it will be said it is a much bigger city limits then DC.... Still so much is downtown, but also though nearby neighborhoods especially up the North Shore near neighborhoods and as I said South Loop and West Loop today that are/were hot for new hotels coming on line this year and WHAT A BAD YEAR TO COME ON LINE. This year is moot for the Hotel industry in Chicago. NO conventions this year and already the largest Spring convention cancelled for next year.

I am not looking up DC and that is for you. At least I found this one for Chicago downtown..... MORE A TIT FOR TAT GAME I SEE TOO.

Did you see how DC having a Soviet ICBM can be trumpted by Chicago having a German U-505 captured submarine .....

Just announced today that Chicago was again voted the best big city for travelers by Conde Nast:

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301146189.html

Condé Nast Traveler announced today that Chicago was voted the best large city in the United States in its annual Readers' Choice Awards. Chicago was first voted "Best Large City" in 2017, repeating the selection in 2018, 2019 and has now won for a fourth year in a row for 2020, a first in the history of the category.

DC is looked at for what it is, the capitol of the US, more than as a stand-alone city. Outside of things affiliated with the US (museums, historical buildings, etc.), one doesn't hear much of the city.

Also, in what universe is the DC metro 1/4th the size of Chicagoland?

I never said the DC metro or Chicagoland. The city is 1/4 the size of Chicago (city) from a land and population perspective.

I'm seeing 132 hotels in all of Washington DC, per this source: https://washington.org/dc-informatio...otel%2520Facts

I'm seeing 140+ in Chicago's business district alone, per the Tribune: https://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...c4e-story.html

We already know Chicago has higher tourism numbers than DC, which seems to have been supported by most every list/data source you can find. Chicago is also 4x the population.

So why would you think that DC has more hotel rooms, or even make that statement?

Chicago, NYC, and DC are in the same ballpark with hotel rooms, and each have been building more at a rapid pace this past decade. The numbers for each city is from a few years back, so order may have shifted:

3. Chicago, Illinois

108,700 existing rooms
1,500 rooms in construction
4,800 rooms in planning phase
115,000 total rooms forecast (#5)

4. Washington D.C.

106,200 existing rooms
2,900 rooms in construction
7,900 rooms in planning phase
117,000 total rooms forecast (#4)

5. New York New York

106,000 existing rooms
12,600 rooms in construction
11,500 rooms in planning phase
130,100 total rooms forecast (#2)

That list is from 2013, which is quite outdated at this point. Though I'd imagine the current rankings are likely similar

This is about tourist attractions. The White House, Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol building alone are pretty novel. Throw in things like the Declaration of Independence it’s even more up there.

I’m not exactly sure what a tourist particularly goes to see in a Chicago. I guess the Chicago Theater sign and the river during st. Patrick’s day? I mean. I’d completely go for the bars and to enjoy the city. But for like. Tourism. I dunno. Cant think of things that have a draw like the aforementioned for DC.
Both you and CCrest are right

DC has more tourist attractions. Chicago is probally more exciting for a frequent visitor. More Chicago-oriented.

I dont think people go to DC to soak up the 'DC'...but they go to DC.

Don't forget similar numbers in office space and cabs too! And DC is 1/4 the size.
