Live
------
New York City, NY
*live here now. Anything and everything for folks who love cities. The biggest and the best in the US.
Boston, MA
*could easily see myself living here. Have visited many times but do love the urban vibrancy and culture.
Washington, DC
*amazing improvements in DC over the past 10 years. Good neighborhoods and abundant things to do daily.
Atlanta, GA
*lived here before years ago, and could easily live in midtown. Tons of infill has been built recently, and it is a true urban neighborhood now.
Los Angeles, CA
*I almost moved here 2 times. Lived here briefly right after college for 2 months. Love the weather, the neighborhoods and the excitement on a daily basis.
Visit
------
Chicago, IL
*winters are just too brutally cold for me long term to live.
San Francisco, CA
*beautiful stunning city. Never captured my desire to live here though. It seems like a wonderful vacation always, but never to set down roots for me.
Las Vegas, NV
*tons of gambling, bar, restaurant attractions for a fun filled weekend. Never to live, even though there are gorgeous neighborhoods.
Philadelphia, PA
*I flirted with moving here in the past once, but upon further research it didn't give me a good vibe feeling for long term. I love the center city and visit often.
New Orleans, LA
*Beautiful architecture and a soulful vibe. The French Quarter is a true one-of-a-kind area. To visit is amazing but living here is not ideal due to the sticky climate, the sluggish economy and the low-lying flood prone areas.
Las Vegas (next stop)
Houston
Alexandria, VA (back to living here now after 2 1/2 years in Nashville)
Orange County
Vancouver/Toronto during warm months
Visit:
Las Vegas
Toronto
Mexico City
LA
Honolulu
-Will never live there again: Nashville (too small, not much to do if you are non-white and/or over 30, terrible Asian foods), Raleigh (most boring city on earth when I was in college at NC State but that was back in early 2000's)
-Maybe one day will live here again: Charlotte. I like to live in a metro of at least 3.3M. She's getting there.
-Wouldn't mind living here for a year or two: Cincinnati, Orlando, Honolulu, Phoenix
to live:
Bay Area--home
Los Angeles--2nd home
Portland Area--I love everything about this place, except any trace of snow.
Seattle---same as Portland.
Houston or Atlanta--I like the people.
to visit:
Vegas--I own a condo there, but could never actually live there.
Orlando--best place for family vacays I reckon, but I couldnt live there.
New York--been there, done that, it's great, but I wouldnt move there because I wanted to.
New Orleans--just a really fun city with lots of interesting heritage, but not my cup of tea as a place to live.
Honolulu--I used to think I could live there, but after 2 weeks, I always want to come home.
Under the right circumstances, I would be willing to live in all of the top 16 metros *EXCEPT* the following:
*Boston
*Seattle
*San Francisco
As far as my favorite metros to live, I would say
1) Dallas
2) Houston
3) Atlanta
4) Chicago
5) Charlotte
We are opposites, I could live in any of the top 10 major metros EXCEPT for
*Houston
*Dallas
Lived in the first two and hated the unending strip mall sprawl, lack of topography or even a decent hill, highway dependence and the sweltering heat. Can’t pay me enough to go back living in those cities.
My favorite metros to live are
1) Vancouver
2) Seattle
3) San Diego
4) Boston
5) Triangle
To visit is the same, but replace Seattle with NYC and Triangle with Chicago.
