Police department is claiming that violent crime was down this 4th of July but shooting victims were double last year. Two people were also shot by stray bullets and reported as an "injured person" to help keep overall stats down.

In addition to the surge of violence in Chicago, suburban Cook County has seen a a 50% increase in homicides during the first 6 months of 2021. The medical examiner's office reports that the homicide count in suburban Cook is at 100, compared to 66 at that point in 2020 and 63 in 2019. The article also says many occured in the south suburbs( go figure). From another source, I hear that Harvey already seen 18, compared to about 20 in all of 2020 and 23 in 2019. For a small city of 24,400, those are horrific numbers, and what else is concerning is that many of those killings have gone unnoticed by local news media. There should be a homicide tracker for the suburbs, since I guess the media have their hands full with providing the toll for Chicago alone.

This is one thing about 2021 that's telling 2020 "hold my beer and watch this". It seems to just be getting worse as the pandemic is ending and society is trying to go back to normal, except many people forgot how to act.

Boston is now at 18 for the year

https://www.universalhub.com/crime/murder/2021

There was a murder on July 5 - Before that, the last murder within the city limits of Boston was on June 20.

Boston seems to be one of the few cities bucking the trend as its murder rate seems to be going down after last year.

Hey I found some for Cleveland... just last year.... you should help us out for Cleveland more current.
Sorry this is not HeyJackass. How about if we get a HeyJackass Cleveland....
But harsh words from Cleveland.com. below.

Jan 2021 link for last year:

‘It’s like war numbers’: Cleveland endures worst homicide rate in recent history in 2020

https://www.cleveland.com/metro/2021...y-in-2020.html

From the link.

- Cleveland. The city hit 185 homicides on Dec. 20, the most in a single year since 1982 when the city hit 195 homicides and when nearly 200,000 more people called the city home.

-The homicide rate in 1982 ended at 33.9 homicides per 100,000 residents; this year.
- As of Dec. 20, it was 48.6 homicides per 100,000 residents in Cleveland for 2020.
- In Cleveland’s deadliest year -- 1972, when there were 333 homicides -- the homicide rate was 44.3 per capita.

- Cleveland City Councilman Michael Polensek, who was first elected councilman in 1978, said the numbers bear out what he’s heard from residents all year: that the level of violence in 2020 escalated to historic levels.

For Chicago....

The homicide rate per 100,000 residents in Chicago grew from 18.7 homicides in 2019 to 28.6 per/100,000 residents in 2020.

- As of June 27, that number was at 12.1 so far in 2021 with 327 homicides reported in Chicago.

The link I got this from has a paywall. I could only get this portion.
__________________________________________________ _____________________________________
To PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE of CLEVELAND VS CHICAGO for rate per/100,000 in population per/capita.

Chicago 2020 Homicide rate ---- 28.6 homicides/per 100,000 residents.

Cleveland 2020 Homicide rate -- 48.6 homicides/per 100,000 residents.

*** I FOUND SOMETHING anyway. =----> "WE NEED A HEYJACKASS CLEVELAND STYLE ".. Since you like it so.

There are several that are bucking the trend - Boston, San Francisco and Seattle have all gone down significantly compared to last year.

You could take the yearly total from San Diego, Boston, San Francisco, etc. combined and it basically equals one bad weekend in Chicago.
