If your city constantly make crime headlines on your local media ABC then its safe to say that city has above average crime. I check a few ABC metro medias and they usually highlight the outrageous things. Philadelphia this year at this moment sounds theyre having the worst struggle with homicide. For Chicago its "regular" to them so they just list shot tallies like sports box scores..

St Louis homicides are up about 25% from this time last year... And last year was a terrible, terrible year for St Louis in terms of homicides. The 2020 homicide rate was 87 per 100K, one of the highest, if not the highest homicide rate for any major US city in history.

If trends continue, STL will finish the year with a homicide rate of 110 per 100K- a rate seen usually only in narco states.

If my understanding is correct, I would caution against reading too far into these YoY numbers. This time last year was still the early pandemic stages with few people out and about and an otherwise unremarkable start to the year. From what I understand, homicides didn’t begin to really spike until late spring/early summer, so it might be more insightful to look at the previous 4-month period to see where homicides are trending more recently.

We’ll have to see what happens this summer. Hopefully, with reopening, more “eyes on the street” and higher employment will reduce crime.

Now it’ll be different if you compare the hoods of Los Angeles to the hoods of Dallas. Big cities have too many safe area’s to lower their overall crime. Trust me there’s nothing safe about Brooklyn,Bronx or the SouthSide Chicago.
Dont compare Dallas 1.3 million people to Detroit 600k and St. Louis 314k

And Dallas Metro is even MORE major 7.7 million....

Ive got it at 13.

It was a 73 year old grandmother. Shot by a bullet intended for someone else whil sitting on her proch.

Boston has had a tremendous surge in shootings and stabbings over the past week probably at least a dozen. It hasnt translated into death excepts for this poor woman. Just senseless. Unfortunately, Olney Street is part of the NOB gang territory (subject to a high-profile RICO case last summer involving a local rap group) and they have beef with Cameron Street. Hopefully, the jailing of 32 Norton-Olney-Barry Street gang members leads to a quell of violence and not a power vacuum.

It's always like that. I remember last summer 24 people were shot in 10 days and only like 1 or 2 died. People in Boston don't have access to the same quality of firearm as states to the south and west. Usually, old handguns that jam up, don't shoot straight, or just arent very lethal. Because access to guns is limited theyre often shared, dumped, and very expensive. Add to this there's an ER every 12 blocks in Boston.

Anecdotally "sending shots" or making shots non-lethal is a more effective way to send a message to rivals and not go to jail. As long as you kill no one, in Boston, you won't go to jail. Literally. 96% of non-fatal shootings in Boston don't result in convictions. So why not just drive by and let off a few rounds to remind these dudes they cant sleep easy...not like your gun is accurate anyway.

The fatality rate of Boston shooting is about 60% of that in Baltimore.

Well Boston like anywhere else youre going to have more people shooting just to shoot and youll have certain incidents where the shooter is trying to murder, so it depends if you shoot at somebody to send a message if any vs murders where you get the whole magazine unloaded.
