It's high historically, but fairly typical in recent years.

Mortified.

London is, even by Canadian standards, a very safe city. NOBODY in London ever goes to Detroit even though it's the exact same distance to Toronto. Up until 1960 this was not the case as Detroit was much bigger than Toronto and a hell of a lot more vibrant as Toronto was referred to as Boronto. Since the white flight and the black riots of the 1960s when Detroit hallowed out, Detroit is nothing more than a big city you have to drive thru on your way to somewhere else ie Chicago or I-95 to get to Florida for March break.

Londoners, like most Americans, view Detroit as the once great city that has become crime infested and left to rot. Some parts of Detroit are beginning to see renewal but when you have Toronto also only being 2 hours away why would you go to Detroit?

Also Windsor, right across the river from Detroit is very safe. It's like El Paso is compared to Juarez, or San Diego to Tijuana. Only in the case of Detroit/Windsor it's the US side of the border that's the bad side.

Detroit is nothing like Juarez or Tijuana. This is stretching the truth at best and a falsehood at worst. Not a fan of otherizing a city (Detroit) full of hard working folks that's been experiencing a turnaround the last few years.

Agree. Detroit was doing much better before COVID and hopefully that continues as we come out of the pandemic. I've had a couple great trips to Detroit including the old Model T factory, a downtown walking tour, and the revitalization there has been good to see. Comparing it to 100+ per 100k homicide cities like TJ and Juarez is absurd. If people in London, Ontario don't want to visit, their loss.

It was just a scale of comparison. I wasn't saying Detroit was like Juarez or TJ. At the same time San Diego and El Paso aren't as safe as Windsor. I was just stating a point of a safe city with a dangerous city just across the border.
