In terms of NYC suburbs on the NY side that would fit much of the criteria, I’d say White Plains and parts of New Rochelle for bigger, more urban suburbs. Tuckahoe, Pelham and Nyack for smaller, walkable communities with good schools that have a decent/good mix of students.
In terms of the bolded city and forgive me if I posted this somewhere else in the thread, but here is a nice video about its schools: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXFW_RQShQU
I was thinking of Stamford as another CT city that is similar to White Plains.
Makes sense - the two cities have roughly the same % Black population, Black political representation, and actually do some civic things together too (aka "Stamford-Norwalk").

Do you know how the schools for both are or at least how they are viewed? I did know someone a while back that went to Westhill HS in Stamford that attended Howard University with an older sister of mine and her dad was a lawyer(I believe her parents were from Orangeburg SC originally). So, I do know that there is a black middle class presence in the city.
Adjusted for COL the top cities here (roughly) im using three sites and averaging them out: Smart Asset, Nerd Wallet and Sperlings Best Places. They weighs different things in terms of trying to acheive the same QOL. Smart Assest and Nerd Walle tshow much less variance for perceived COL than Sperlings Best.
Heres Boston compared ot Chicago on all three. Boston Black family income trumps Chicago Black family income even when adjusted for COL in 2/3 but im using my own judgement to an extent
MILTON MA
TEANECK NJ
BROCKTON MA
(kansas city)
MOUNT VERNON NY
NORWALK CT
STAMFORD CT
WORCESTER MA
BALTIMORE MD
PHILADELPHIA PA
BUFFALO NY
(houston)
BOSTON MA
(chicago)
NYC NY
NEW HAVEN CT
ATLANTA GA
WASHINGTON DC
JERSEY CITY NJ
(los angeles)
(miami)

There's Milton/Teaneck
Then there's a Brockton-Worcester tier
Baltimore-DC is one tier
then there the toughies.
I wouldn't be surprised if places in NY like Elmont, Valley Stream, North Valley Stream, Baldwin, West Babylon, Westbury and perhaps place like Cheltenham PA, South Orange NJ, etc. are up there as well.
So, those are some other examples that came to mind right away. See, now you know I'm going to add more to this list...
Another thing to consider is that you can do this by census tract. An example is of this tract in the outer East Side of Syracuse: https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...6-onondaga-ny/ it has a black family income of $127,917(about 20% black):https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B So, you can break this down to a smaller level and it can also allow you see areas of cities given a common narrative, that may not be considered otherwise.

BLOOMFIELD CT: $79,729
SPRINGFIELD MA: $48,073
WILMINGTON DE: $43,370
I'm shocked by Hartford, its black areas and population certainly look and feel much poorer than new Haven I would've though Hartford's Black family income would be 35-40k and New Havens 45-55k.
