Given this criteria by the OP from another thread: “ I’m looking for highly rated diverse schools with a Black percentage in the 20s and up range”, some other areas in the region that could work are the Valley Stream SD’s, Elmont/Sewahaka Schools, Baldwin, Malverne, West Hempstead, North Babylon and perhaps Nyack in the NY portion of the NYC metro area; Abington and Cheltenham in the PA portion of the Philadelphia metro; Gateway SD(Monroeville) in the Pittsburgh metro; Susquehanna Township in the Harrisburg metro; Sweet Home(Amherst) in the Buffalo metro; Menands(a K-8th grade SD with multiple HS options)in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro; perhaps Hamden and West Haven in the New Haven metro area and Milton and perhaps Stoughton in the Boston area. This is likely an incomplete list and many may not be THE best, but generally have solid/above average metrics.

If it wasn't for the taxes, I would consider the Northeast US. I have a brother in Brooklyn right now. The weather doesn't bother me. I like the cold. NY, MA, NJ taxes aren't a joke!

^Even then, some of the most affordable home prices are in the Northeast. Check out this Housing Opportunity Index from the National Home Builders Association: https://www.nahb.org/-/media/NAHB/ne...nk-2021q1.xlsx

Source(list above is the Complete Listing by Affordability Rank): https://www.nahb.org/news-and-econom...ortunity-index

So, you have to consider all aspects in terms of cost of living and by the metro area, as cost of living varies within a state.

In the case of taxes, it even varies in terms of say NY, where NYC and Yonkers have their own income tax, but the rest of the state doesn’t. So, some things can be municipality specific as well.

Just to add for FloridaExiled, quite a few black people with roots in FL in NY, with a lot of them coming by way of the migrant farm seasonal work from places like Belle Glade, Pahokee, Sanford, Ocala, Arcadia, Titusville, etc. Many came Upstate(around Rochester and nearby cities) or Long Island, then later to NYC or the surrounding area.

Actually this post from the C v. C neighborhoods threads are a couple of neighborhoods with a long time and still visible middle class presence: https://www.city-data.com/forum/61170501-post1095.html

A business in the first neighborhood: https://www.emteacoffeecup.com/

Philly's two hours from Brooklyn and they have some really nice suburbs/townships if you don't want to live directly in the city.

Yeah as long as you stay on the PA side to avoid the incredibly insane NJ taxes lol.

Abington, Cheltenham and parts of Springfield and Lower Merion(Ardmore) Townships in Montgomery County are some that come to mind.
