^I think that is what’s nice about areas in the Northeast as you can generally get to a range of amenities within a short distance. With the Westcott area, you can walk, bike, take a bus or take a very short drive to this area for work or events: https://university-hill.com/ https://university-hill.com/fueling-...opportunities/
For schools, some may go with zone options(Ed Smith & Nottingham), but some may go with magnet ITC and charter Syracuse Academy of Science for public(last 2 are predominantly black, but diverse and high performing) or private options like Bishop Grimes, Christian Brothers Academy or Manlius Pebble Hill, among others. Grimes has been known for its Basketball program and CBA is known for its Football program(this young man is “up next” in terms of the next D1 talent from that school that has sent players to Pitt, Indiana, Syracuse and Boston College, among others within the past 15 years: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si....now-2024-class (his brother actually went to Syr. Academy of Science before going prep and now plays Basketball at Syracuse after transferring from Marquette)
All of this in the backdrop of intense ethnic diversity, history, dynamism.... and if you can snag a suburban school slot, get your kid into an examschool or get into one of the dozens of privateschools. Youre living a comfortable life. The problem is it requires you to make 120k as a couple if you want to own. Or 85k if you want to rent and not feel totally broke.
Youll see South Shore Plaza located near Milton and Quincy in Braintree Ma is a very large, modern, thriving mall with an extremely diverse clientele. It draws folks from southern Boston as well as the 'Metro South' Suburbs like Braintree Weymouth Stoughton Randolph etc
There may be more in terms of this criteria, but I have come across some that come close in places like Philadelphia, New Haven and in Central and Northern NJ.
Would people in the Roslindale/Hyde Park area of the city also go to these places or are there other amenities they are more likely to patronize?
Oh absolutely. Especially in Hyde Park. It's a very very quick drive from Hyde Park. Its really a guarantee you'll find other HP residents there at all times. Its uber-popular.
This and Downtown Crossing are where I did virtually all of my shopping apart from occasional trips to Legacy Place which literally borders Hyde Park. Lot of people like Legacy Place its a very large very modern shopping and entertainment complex with Kings Bowling, AMC Lux Theatres, Whole Foods, LL Bean,PF Changs and more. Its a whiter clientele but still popular for date nights. Black owned Boston hold pop up markets there.
Both Legacy Place and South Shore Plaza have multiple bus routes. South Shore Plaza is also accessible by rapid transit via the Red Line. Even closer to Hyde Park and Roslindale is the Dedham Mall which was an actual enclosed mall until 2003. used to be very popular with the inner city crowd and that was one of the factors that led to its demise honestly. Now it's more of a large sprawling plaza.
I thought about that for the New Haven zip in terms of income. I’m wondering if the presence of Yale in that zip helps(increase the educational attainment), but hurts(off campus students presence can bring income down/poverty rate up).
Massachusetts has the top healthcare and education systems in the US, both public and private. The most highly educated population as well.
Great quality of life with all that New England has to offer. 4 true seasons with easy access to beautiful beaches and skiing. Active, educated citizens + top hospitals and doctors also leads to longer life expectancy.
Despite its lack of 'cool' and cultural pull for Black Americans these things matter, a lot, and do pull and hold a substantial black population. It's the price tag you must pay in Boston that's the killer.
