Yeah man…What people may not know is that a lot of other cities/states in the Northeast are trying to get into the film production game. For instance, Troy NY is a city that has been used for scenes for the HBO series “The Gilded Age”, which is partially directed by Sally Richardson Whitfield: https://www.instagram.com/p/CP1PHolMCLX/

So, those may be a couple of examples of the type of work in the entertainment business that some may move to the region for.

Speaking of Black Entertainment - Michael Jai White is leading an initiative to open up a full film production studio in New Haven. https://www.newhavenindependent.org/...try/jaigantic/

So when folks from the south go up north they think NYC and that's it basically. And they don't get to really be in the black culture much because they don't have family/friends to show them around. I will say though there are many Black people with Virginia plates I see drive through Boston and to a lesser Hartford and New London CT.

Additionally, many of the urban blacks in places like Hartford Bridgeport Providence or Brockton beside often being impoverished are kind of...gruff. But not in a southern way at all. It's offputting to some African Americans from other areas, for good reason. Often times urban Black American in New England haven't been able to advance much from when they arrived in 1950 or whatever. This is especially evident in North Hartford in particular. I thinking Clay Arsenal when I say this...
New Haven and Cambridge may be slight exceptions because both cities contain "gruff" and "polished" Black folks (generalization of course - the reality is a big shade of gray) thanks to Harvard and Yale among other schools in these cities. They both stick out with an active and influential Black political class compared some of the other cities in New England.

That's dope! I do recall him being from CT. I wish Brian J. White would do that in Mass...too many white-washed movies. New Haven is the most beautiful city in New England IMO, I mean that. I think its really gorgeous.

EDIT;I notice the state Black and Latino Caucus behind this project. I wish MA CT and RI would work together with some more. We face so many of the same challenges and environments (obviously there are some differences). IF we would do some regional coordination it would be great. Btw brother you might want to join this 'Black/African Americans in New England' group I found on Facebook if you use Facebook. there's some good CT representation even though its Massachusetts heavy. Some folks from Bridgeport, West Hartford, Hartford, Bloomfield, Bristol, New Haven etc etc Good for networking and finding black-owned businesses/vacation spots etc.

EDIT 2: you guys use 'Black and Puerto Rican Caucus'..interesting. We say Black and latino. Makes sense though... CT is so Puerto Rican.. but why dont they have a website? Theres one for MA http://www.mablacklatinocaucus.com/

True Cambridge is a lot less gruff nowadays most of that has been pushed into Malden Everett even Revere and Woburn. But it did get a black mayor way back in 94/5 I think. Framingham albeit a smaller black population is similar. Good number middle class and educated African Americans. @cthank I know a family who moved to F'ham from Glen Falls.

You're about four blocks south of where you should be on Germantown Avenue to capture the heart of the Mount Airy commercial district, which is the stretch from 7100 to 7300 Germantown Avenue.

^Thank you that information and has been noted.

@BBMM, that is interesting about the family moving from Glens Falls to Framingham, as GF has a small, but somewhat visible black population. It does have a couple of churches and a NAACP chapter in that area though.

Also, in terms of the film scene aspect, this is a segment about incentives in the Syracuse area and a key portion could be relevant to this thread: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/ce...oduction-crews

I think what also needs to be considered is budget. PA cities are cheaper than Boston & NYC for instance. OP may want NYC or Boston, but if they can't afford it then it shouldn't be a contender at all.

Also I would scrap Newark. It's not that nice. Way nicer places you can live than Newark.

I believe that is it and some of these listed have a wide mix of neighborhoods within them. On a side note, there were a few in Delaware that were over 20% black, but were just under 40% for educational attainment. Some were in the high teens for black percentage and had an educational attainment over 40% as well. With the latter zip codes, they could be adjusted up depending on who you include, as the percentages are black non-Hispanic alone.
