Looking at this data though, it looks like the pay would be quite good: https://worldpopulationreview.com/st...r-pay-by-state
Pay for teachers isn't an issue in Boston where they make like 95k per year on average. (but it is for the cape)

Boston is about 23% black teachers, identical to the city population, and just a little below the BPS student black population ~28%. However there are even more black charter school teachers in my experience, and the student populations there are also blacker.

Yes, teacher pay in any Northeast state is high on average and it looks like NYC is similar on the charter school front: https://nyccharterschools.org/policy...charter-facts/

https://nyccharterschools.org/policy...rter-teachers/

Not sure about the others though.

In terms of the housing aspect, this information can help in regards to affordability: https://www.nahb.org/news-and-econom...ortunity-index (view Complete Listing by Affordability Rank)

In terms of the areas in the initial list, Harrisburg is the most affordable(4th overall in the region on the list, 21st nationally) and Wilmington would be second(15th and 54th).

In terms of other metro though, it goes Pittsburgh(1st, 10th), Rochester(5th, 22nd), Syracuse(7th, 27th) and Hartford(9th, 36th) in terms of other mid sized/larger areas in the region and having more affordable housing markets. Buffalo(10th, 38th) and Albany(11th, 40th) aren't far behind. Out of these cities, Hartford has the highest median family income(1st Q 2021: 104k) and Syracuse has the lowest median sales price(1st Q 2021: 149k).

As for other areas in the region, Binghamton, Elmira and Utica-Rome in NY; along with Scranton, Reading, Lancaster, Erie and East Stroudsburg in PA are other affordable housing markets in the region on that list. Allentown PA is also on the list, but a little bit further down. Camden NJ's metropolitan division is also higher on the list.

You can also view affordability by region separately. https://www.nahb.org/-/media/NAHB/ne...on-2021q1.xlsx

More, for areas over and under 500k in population: https://www.nahb.org/-/media/NAHB/ne...op-2021q1.xlsx

Historical information since 2012 for Large and Small metros on the list: https://www.nahb.org/-/media/NAHB/ne...st-2021q1.xlsx

On a side note, does anyone know if the black owned Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation/American Urban Radio Networks are still based out of Pittsburgh? I'm only asking due to the OP's mentioning of the media industry in past threads.

"WEIB-106.3 Smooth FM is the ONLY LOCALLY OWNED & INDEPENDENT Commercial FM Radio Station in the Greater Springfield, MA Metro Market; The ONLY FEMALE OWNED Commercial FM Radio Station in Massachusetts, and the ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNED Radio Station (AM or FM) In All of New England. "

^Technically.. not true. WZBR in Boston is African-American owned by Alex Langer of Langer Broadcasting. however, after 4 years, he went silent in July 2020 on 1410 AM and 98.1 FM due to financial difficulties. The Urban Heat 98.1 still broadcasts online though https://heat981fm.com/

Its is the only black one broadcasting, this past year though. Spark FM, while popular is an online station only. How a Black-Owned Digital Boston Radio Station Launched, Survived, and Thrived during Lockdown

Even more Popular is the pirate station. B87FM. Which has more social media followers than two of our legal white-owned hip hop/rnb stations. Its also been featured in the Boston Globe for its political talk. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/03/...idst-pandemic/

^In terms of the more low power, community radio stations, this station in Rochester is similar to those Boston stations: https://www.1009wxir.com/

It is aligned with this tv station: https://www.rctvmediacenter.org/
https://www.rctvmediacenter.org/abou...-media-center/

Syracuse has this one that it is an internet station(would be nice to get it on terrestrial radio): https://wywmradio.com/
https://www.urbancny.com/syracuse-ba...-broadcasting/

Binghamton does have this station owned by the Urban League of Broome County: https://www.wjobfm.com/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WJOB-FM

This black owned low power station also in Binghamton just stopped broadcasting a couple of weeks ago(looks like it may return though): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WXXW-LP
PASSION RADIO 87.7FM* - Home

A low power station in Albany, whose station focuses on the Arbor Hill, South End and Downtown areas of the city(first 2 are predominantly black): https://grandarts.org/wcaa-lp/#
https://grandarts.org/staff/

On a side note, this urban radio station in Buffalo is the market’s most listened to radio station and the oldest FM continuously urban format radio station in the country(1964): https://wblk.com/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WBLK
https://ratings.radio-online.com/content/arb037

This means that out of all of the radio markets in the Northeast, Buffalo and Philadelphia have Urban stations as their most listened to radio station, with Rochester and NYC having urban stations at #2(with the Rochester station coming in at #1 at times and WBLS as the NYC station). If you include Wilmington, Philadelphia’s WDAS is that area’s most listened to station(same for Philly). Out of all of them, Rochester’s WDKX(the initials stand for Douglass, King and (Malcolm) X), is the only black owned station and has been so since 1974.

Another thing to consider in terms of the education piece is the chance to take advantage of promise scholarship programs to help pay for college. Here are some in the region starting with cities in the initial list.

Boston: https://owd.boston.gov/tfcc/

https://owd.boston.gov/tfcc/boston-bridge/

Newark/Essex County: https://coopermanscholars.org/

Philadelphia: https://corescholars.org/

https://www.ccp.edu/paying-college/t...holars-program

Some others, Buffalo: https://sayyesbuffalo.org/

Hartford: https://www.hartfordpromise.org/

New Brunswick NJ: https://futurescholars.rutgers.edu/

New Haven: https://newhavenpromise.org/

Pittsburgh: https://pittsburghpromise.org/

Rochester: https://enrollment.rochester.edu/blo...ester-promise/

Syracuse: https://sayyessyracuse.org/

https://www.sunyocc.edu/occadvantage (for select suburban SD's)

There are other such scholarship programs in the region on a local or state level as well, which you can view here: https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...20+%281%29.pdf

https://www.collegepromise.org/

There are also some not listed in those sources like this one at a private college in Syracuse: https://www.lemoyne.edu/Academics/Ca...e-NY-Resources
https://www.lemoyne.edu/promise-NY

There's also scholarships or aid to many private Pre K-12 schools in the region like this one at Albany's Christian Brothers Academy: https://evangelist.org/Content/More-...s-/3/138/28888
