I would say 9/10 people have no idea that Budweiser is from St. Louis.
I honestly thought it was from Madison, Wisconsin.
The decline of literacy in this country is dismaying.
Either that, or Anheuser-Busch needs to revisit its labeling.
The classic Budweiser label, which looks like a certificate and has a banner across the top explaining how special this beer is, used to list the location of either all of A-B's breweries or the main one at the bottom; if the latter, it read, "Anheuser-Busch Inc., St. Louis, Mo."
And when was Madison a center of beer brewing in America? If you're going to put it in a Wisconsin city, shouldh't it have been Milwaukee?
the idea that Budweiser location is tied to literacy is kinda dismaying. really. Bud? alright its large ties to pop culture but I'd hardly call that literacy. BTW the REAL Budweiser is in Czech Republic, it's called Budvar.

I would disagree with a few of the points you made.
Yes, St. Louis is known for the arch and as the "gateway to the west".
But after that it drops off quite quickly.

Budweiser does a great job every year with advertising, but it never makes references it is from St. Louis. So unless you are a total beer geek you would have no idea.
In terms of sports, the Steelers are most definitely the clear winner here. MLB overall is a slowly dying sport with declining fans throughout the league and the Cardinals have little fanbase outside the immediate metro.
The Steelers are one of the top NFL teams in regards to fanbase area, with fans all across the USA. Similar to the Cowboys and Patriots.
St. Louis is known for the arch but that is about it.
The Steelers are really what makes Pittsburgh to be very much the more recognized city, nationwide.
It is unfortunate that St. Louis lost its NFL team.
I agree with some of this, but some of this is outlandish. Many people know about Anheuser-Busch and Budweiser's association with St. Louis. Also the Cardinals have a strong national fanbase for a MLB team. Not to the level of the Steelers, but to say they have "little fanbase outside of the immediate metro area" is hyperbole.
I would have voted for Detroit if it were mentioned. I chose Pittsburgh based on how the city has been able to leverage its strengths. A former run down, economically stricken metropolis in Appalachia has transformed into a nice city.
Does anybody drink crappy beer anymore? Why would the average person see a Budweiser label?
Yes. Mind you, not just Budweiser, but Bud Light, Busch, and a number of other beers and alcoholic beverages. AB also owns a number of craft breweries, such as Elysian, Breckenridge, and Goose Island. It's basically the "establishment" of the alcohol industry. In America anyway.
