QOL: Tie. Both are pretty good
COL: VA
Public Transit: MA
Universities: MA
Economy: Close but MA
Wealth: Not sure. Probably another close one
Character: both have tons
Politics: MA. Can’t go against the first state with marriage equality.
Suburbs: MA. Their suburbs are actually cute.
Schools: Both have excellent districts and bad districts.
Urban Cores: MA. VA has no answer to Boston.
Diversity: VA
Climate: Depends where in each state. The Cape is milder than parts of VA.
Shopping: The internet is available in both states so tie.
Food: lean MA
Road Network/Traffic: VA
Sports: MA even though I don’t care for their teams
Quick Getaways/Recreation/Parks/Beaches: Warmer waters in VA but the beach towns in New England have more character. Also like MA’s proximity to decent skiing, and other winter sports
Economic Future: probably VA
Job/Housing Market: probably VA
Nightlife/Entertainment: Boston is kind of disappointing in this regard but so is VA.
History/Museums: Lean MA

Overall I think MA checks more of the boxes but it doesn’t run away with it. And I’m from VA so that helps even out the score IMO.

9-MA
7-VA
6-Tie

Very close, maybe slight lean to MA. Won't vote because COL and House market are extra important and VA wins there.
