That’s a tough one for me. On its own, Las Vegas ranks pretty high. I absolutely love the desert, though Vegas isn’t IMHO in the prettiest parts of our desert Southwest.
San Diego is semi-desert, so I would get the benefit of much of the desert scenery combined with things like palm trees, and ocean views. Toss in some pleasant architecture and I think I would end up going for San Diego.
Unfortunately, I think San Diego is the biggest city in the US that I’ve never been to.

Unfortunately, they just had to put Vegas there.
Even if they hadn't, San Diego has a lot more going for it in that department.
Vegas exists where it does because when it first started getting built up, it was the closest you could get to Los Angeles with legalized gaming

Also, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park comprises 1/5 of San Diego County and is the largest California state park and second largest state park in the country.
Although I think I favor the desert landscapes surrounding Vegas (Red Rock & Valley of Fire). But SD definitely has the identical landscape as Las Vegas valley within close proximity. It's not particularly attractice though.
San Diego is beautiful, but I think Las Vegas is nice too if your into Desert Scenery and Xeriscape Landscaping...When i'm in Vegas I always enjoyed the views of the Mountains and the Colorful Las Vegas Strip which can be seen at so many vantage points throughout the Valley.
I don’t think people go to Vegas for its beauty. I know it has some beautiful neighborhoods and parks, like many cities do, but some places just aren’t known for that. I’d pick San Diego.
