I don't know about the rest of these, but the one I marked with the asterisk is pronounced "NEW-ARK," not "NEW-urk" like the city in New Jersey. Here in Philadelphia, which is close to both, that helps people keep the two straight.

I also find it interesting that there are only two Kansas Cities, but the population of the two put together is bigger than any other collection of commonly named places posted here so far save Springfield.

And, of course, the two are next-door neighbors.

There is quite a few Marion cities and towns, most named after American Revolution hero Francis Marion. In the Plains states and Rocky Mountain states, a handful of Marion towns were named for someone else, which I noted below.

Marion, AL(3,686)
Marion, AR(12,345)
Marion, GA(n/a, since this is an unincorporated community in central Georgia, and btw its county(Twiggs County, w/county seat of Jeffersonville) is part of the Macon metro statistical area)
Marion, IL(17,193)
Marion, IN(29,948) (and coincidentally on a side note, there is an unincorporated Marion town near Shelbyville, and southeast of Indianapolis. and of course, the county Indianapolis is in, is Marion County.)
Marion, IA(26,294)
Marion, KS(1,927) (coincidentally, there is a Marion County Lake and Marion Reservoir too. and per Wikipedia, yes BOTH the lake and reservoir are separate. and this is even the county seat, for Marion County, Kansas!)
Marion, KY(3,039)
Marion, LA(765)
Marion, MA(4,907)
Marion Station, MD(n/a, as wikipedia says that some sources today call it a ghost town, once a freight railroad abandoned a line going into this town in the past. like the Georgia one, I couldn't find any population for this particular Marion)
Marion, MI(872)
Marion, MN(n/a, since like Georgia and Maryland this one is unincorporated)
Marion, MS(1,479)
Marion, MO(n/a, unincorporated. side note, there is a Marion County elsewhere in Missouri)
Marion, MT(886, and weirdly unlike the other Marion towns/cities I noted above, this one actually is a Census designated place)
Marion, NE(unincorporated)
Marion, NY(4,746, this is a township style government essentially)
Marion, NY(1,511, NOTE this one is a Census designated place also in Wayne County and is just a hamlet(a way NY state calls very small unincorporated towns), and the Marion, NY I referred to above weirdly enough is its own township government)
Marion, NC(7,838)
Marion, ND(133, unlike the other Marion cities/towns this one is NOT named after Francis Marion. this one actually is named after Marion Mellen, daughter of Northern Pacific Railway president Charles Sanger Mellen.)
Marion, OH(36,837, supposedly this is the biggest city or town in the US named Marion)
Marion, OR(313, and is an unincorporated Census designated place)
Marion Center borough, PA(953, yet another such city/town that's unincorporated and a Census designated place. and btw, Pennsylvania calls their smaller towns boroughs)
Marion, SC(6,939)
Marion, SD(784, named after the daughter of S.S. Merrill, a Milwaukee railroad official. I wonder if in this guide to what SD towns were named after( https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...ew=1up&seq=131 ), if it's referencing The Milwauke Road Railroad Co.?)
Marion, TX(1,066, named after Marion Dove, whose grandfather, Joshua W. Young, owned a plantation that the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway passed through in 1877.)
Marion, UT(685, The name Marion has been credited to two different sources: Francis Marion Lyman, who, as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, organized the first ward in the area in 1909,[5] and Marion Myrick Sorensen, who settled here with her first husband in 1882.[7] The Marion precinct first appeared under that name in the 1900 census.)
Marion, VA(6,500)
Marion, WV(n/a, unincorporated)
Marion, WI(1,260)
Marion, Grant County, WI(517, this is a township government)
Marion, Juneau County, Wi(433, township government)
Marion, Waushara County, WI(2,065, township government)

WHOA, so many states have a Marion city or town. And of course, there also are some rural township governements called Marion, as well. I didn't expect it'd end up being that VERY many out there with Marion in the name somehow, but it was in the end! I'm not counting the county population of any places named Marion County btw, and only counting local cities or towns, or rural township governments for this.

Overall after adding them all up(and I'm presuming the NY Marion city/town and the Marion Township in New York state are separate in their population counts, ditto w/the ones in Wisconsin), the added calculation of all those population figures is(drum roll please......): 175,921
