I wouldn’t call 5 hours “close”.

I see what ShenardL was trying to indirectly imply, though. That one could do a vacation to either an Atlantic coast beach or a Florida Gulf beach from Atlanta, if they were up for an over 3 hour drive. Granted it appears per that 3 hour map for both Charlotte and Atlanta that it'd be a little further to a Gulf coast beach, but one could do that if they were inclined to do that drive. Or of course fly to Destin or wherever(i.e. Panama, or say fly a little westward into Mobile) on the Gulf coast, as it'd be up to him/her where they'd want to travel to.

And of course if one was starting a drive from Charlotte, they couldn't drive to the FL Gulf coast as easily. Also interesting looking at that 3 hour radius map, that the North Carolina Outer Banks are more further east than I realized they were from Charlotte.

It's basically a break-even at that point. Even if you have a carry-on only (Good luck on that if you're packing for a week), you have to:

Park the car.
Check in with the airline.
Go through security.
Wait at the gate.
Fly.
Disembark.
Get a rental car.

As someone who travels on biz a lot, I'd rather drive it.
