Norfolk/Virginia Beach vs. Corpus Christi.

My Ft Worth husband would still be working Part time (lots of contract telework) I am retired no kids. Slow pace, the beach, minor league/college sports, good supermarkets, great healthcare (bc old). Middlin Conservative.

I have lived in San Diego for years and I wont return ($$, too busy/city, the Pacific is freezing, CA is weird people on all spectrums)

This will be my 8th and final state where I will be buried.

Whaddaya think?

Well, if your husband is from Ft Worth, you might wanna go with Corpus Christi so he'll be closer to his people. Plus the winters are quite a bit milder in Corpus Christi than anywhere in Virginia.

Hampton Roads has a higher overall QOL. I would go that route. But if you have family and friends in TX you'd want to stay close to, I could go with that. Good luck!

Ima go with Hampton Roads. Even in Corpus Christi you’re still a good 6 hour drive from FortWorth. Just because they’re both in Texas doesn’t necessarily mean they’re reasonably close. In Hampton Roads, factor 1.5 hours to get to the airport, check in and depart, a 3 hour flight, and another 30 minutes to get cleared out the airport and in about one less hour than you can drive from Corpus Christi to FortWorth, you can literally fly to FortWorth from Hampton Roads.

Keep in mind that 6 hour ballpark is assuming you don’t run into traffic in San Antonio, Austin, and Waco... which you will in Austin at the very minimum.

A round trip ticket for 2 from Hampton Roads to DFW is probably gonna cost close to a thousand dollars while a round trip ticket for 2 from Corpus Christi to Ft Worth will cost probably close to less than half that amount. And it's less than a one hour non-stop flight vs a 5 or 6 hour flight with a stop or a plane change.

I have no family in the DMV at all. Here only for job. Its good on a temporary basis. When I leave I am not coming back. Ever.

Our family is along 35 in TX, KS, 70 in IL and MO. Family wise CC is much much better

My issue is HR is very big and populous and busy.Thats a huge turnoff. Otherwise I adore it

CC is much more sloooooow. Thats attractive. My concerned about healthcare as it seems people drive to Htown monthly for specialist appointments and I want to quit driving at 65, not hafta drive more.

I vote for HR. It's got so much history and so much to do and I love Virginia Beach, as well as so many of the other beaches there.

But if you have kids, I'd settle where they are if they are likely to be involved with your care in a few years.

If you want a slower pace and more conservative leaning, warm weather coastal area, what about somewhere like Charleston, SC? The area would have much better health care options and cultural amenities than Corpus Christi, and is warmer with a less hectic environment than Norfolk/Virginia Beach. Also Charleston would likely be a place your family would enjoy visiting.

No Kids

HR/CC has some very scary bugs but Charleston has 2 bad things;
-alligators
-its on a gazillion "LifeStyle Lists"( ex; business insider) as one of the best places to move for retirees in the past 5 years. I lived in San Diego and I never again want to live in a super-trendy popular city for relocations.
