Irvine is way more Asian. It feels like 50%. I worked for 3 different Asian companies who put their main US office there. I’ve done a lot of tech business in Plano/Richardson. It doesn’t feel quite as educated white collar. More Hispanic than Asian. I think that overall, they’re not all that different. That Anywhere USA sprawl.

Tough call...I worked for Texas Instruments (Richardson based, but many coworkers lived in Plano) out of their Irvine office for many years....both are prime suburban, homogeneous, bedroom neighborhoods with loads of white collar professionals. As another poster pointed out Irvine has its share of Asians (and Persians) whereas Plano is more “American”. Irvine does have the advantage of being close to a beach and better weather (though the Newport crowd is snootier than any other area in the country I’ve experienced)...Plano is more highway dependent to get to other areas in Dallas I would enjoy hanging out in...Plano has more career opportunities, unless one is willing to torture themselves by commuting and working for a company based in LA (traffic). Plano wins on COL; schools are about equal.
Even though I’m not fond of SoCal south of LA, I’d probably go with Irvine if a gun (advantage TX) were pointed at my head.

both are very comparable but Irvine is probably 60 to 70% asian, mostly first generation asian transplants from main land China and Korea, so sometimes other races might feel a little out of place there.. At least I felt that way some times when I lived there.. Everything felt a little asian-centric..
