As someone whose in-laws had a boat on Lake Lanier, no. Lake Lanier is overcrowded. And on a holiday weekend, you might as well be boating around in a whirlpool. I'm an experienced boater. The only close calls I've had in my life on the water have been on Lanier.

I love Lake Norman in the Charlotte region. It has great recreational opportunities, gated communities, beautiful shorelines, and coming into the Charlotte area via I-77 South when you cross it is amazing.

I know there’s no Atlanta envy in Charlotte (and why on Earth would there be?)
But I was raised in Atlanta and have been to, in & all around Charlotte more times than I can count and it has always felt just like Atlanta to me (or more like what Atlanta was while I was younger).
So many similarities that it’s like Atlanta 2.0 (keeping in mind the 2.0 version is usually an upgrade).
I also realize & recognize that for all the similarities, Charlotte is still its own in its own right. Seems like every time I find myself there, at some point I feel like “man, it reminds me of old Atlanta.”

Was purely just a fun brother/sister city jab...

Yikes...

I’ve also heard that it’s become dangerous around there too...
What’s going on in Atlanta?

Never understood the attraction of Lake Mead. There are two not on the list that I think warranted inclusion
Lake Texoma (Oklahoma & Texas)
Toledo Bend (TX & LA)
Both are in the top 5 I think in size in the south.
