This list is kind of hard to even put down since my city, Houston, is the human trafficking capital of the US.

Anyway, the numbers speak for themselves.

Number of Substantive tips reported by city 2007-2016.

1) Houston - 3,634
2) New York City - 3,074
3) Los Angeles - 2,803
4) Washington DC - 2,730
5) Chicago - 2,098
6) Las Vegas - 1,498
7) Atlanta - 1,497
8) Columbus - 1,466
9) Dallas - 1,380
10) San Diego - 1,333

Number of Cases made from tips given by city 2007-2016.

1) Houston - 1,021
2) Los Angeles - 884
3) New York City - 759
4) Washington DC - 596
5) Chicago - 507
6) Las Vegas - 499
7) Atlanta - 399
8) Dallas - 370
9) Miami - 364
10) Columbus - 356

Per capita, it looks like this:

1) Washington DC
2) Atlanta
3) Orlando
4) Miami
5) Las Vegas
6) Sacramento
7) Houston
8) Tampa
9) Columbus
10) Baton Rouge, LA

The per capita numbers have to be taken with a bit of a grain of salt simply because the cities in question field calls from the regions around them, but the per capita numbers only include the city limits numbers.

I'm shocked Miami is not ranked higher!

What's going on with Columbus.
It looks so random.
So is Baton Rouge

This seems like a very tangential metric.

You’ll have to clarify what you mean. I’m familiar with the term and I don’t see how it applies.

I was also completely baffled by Columbus. I wonder what the issue is up there?

A core metric would be total individuals trafficked (stolen, transported, held, etc.).

Total cases would be a decent secondary stand-in (based on location of offense, and based on the number of victims involved).

Total cases from tips would be a subset of that, and therefore a more variable indicator.

Total tips from substantive cases would be a still foggier version.

Well we do have the number of tips and cases so that paints most of the picture IMO.

I agree about number of victims. I would love to see those numbers but I cant find them published.

I'd assume tips and cases are a small percentage of the actual incidents/victims. And that the rate of tips or cases per victim varies heavily by location.

It's still interesting and potentially telling, of course.

Oh yeah. There’s no doubt the number of true victims is much higher, but the data available is very telling too.
