I don’t think it’s hard to believe given LV’s altitude and latitude vs Austin.
My point is I bet if you asked 100 average people on the street, probably 80 of them would say Las Vegas was warmer, when LV is actually significantly cooler than Austin in winter. It may only be 5 or 6 degrees, but that's pretty significant. You can feel the difference in an additional 5 degrees.

Here are the temps for the coldest month of the year for each city. LV's coldest month is December, while Dallas and Austin's coldest month is January.
Austin is warmer in every month of the winter (Dec, Jan, Feb, and Mar) than Las Vegas. I know that's probably hard for some people to believe, but it's true.
But the coldest days of winter are warmer in Las Vegas than Dallas or Austin, and Dallas sees snow much more often than Las Vegas
Miami. But agree with earlier posts that Las Vegas beats Dallas and Austin due to far fewer cold snaps. I'd rather have average highs 5 degrees cooler but be in a higher USDA Hardiness zone that can much better support palm trees.

Well the winter storm Texas saw in February was the first measurable snow for Dallas in 6 years, so it’s not like it’s every winter.
