DFW is still relatively new, I'd say it emerged 5 years ago. Houston's been around since the 80's.
Yeah. And on top of that, DFW has yet to secure a super star. They’re maybe one super star away from taking off (which I hope eventually happens) but they have never arrived. Meanwhile Houston has 2 easy super stats and a third if you consider Lizzo a rapper (I don’t). And a bunch of other lower stars like Don Toliver (my fav). And Nickelodeon has big plans for Lay Lay. DFW doesn’t even have anyone on Don Toliver’s level before they can even get to Travis Scott/Megan thee Stallion tier. It’s definitely an unfair comparison since it’s so new.
Only one who was on that type of level was Tay-k, and he hasn't been relevant in a hot minute.
Edit: Looks like Post Malone from DFW, so him by a mile... Either way, Houston wins based on quantity of popular rappers. I don't even think anyone associates Posty with DFW, and he was born in NY.

Posty is DFW through and through. I just don’t consider him a rapper. He’s almost pure pop especially everything after his first album. I consider Lizzo more of a rapper than Posty but I wouldn’t count either of them.
But the yeah, like you said. even if you were to count Posty, that’s one compared to many in Houston.
Fam no way in hell is Dallas bigger than Houston at any moment in rap and I associate post Malone with pop music and Syracuse NY. Just now hearing he's from Dallas.

While popular, he's not even the best rapper to come from the town/area. Look up Seth Marcel(gives a good fade and edge up too), Toosii, Ivan Da Great, Qua The King, Andy Mineo(rolls with Lecrae), Scorey, MBK Richy(Auburn), etc. Solid DJ scene as well(Big Hype, Bella J, Maestro, Geda, etc.).

Syracuse actually had a very healthy battle rap scene in the early 2010s.
Grindtime Now was one of the largest battling leagues in the world at the time and the "Upstate NY Division" that was based out of Syracuse produced a lot of emcee talent.
