Regarding culture, I think it's fair to say that Pittsburgh wins in terms of "high culture," and New Orleans wins in terms of "American culture." Not that either city is a slouch in the categories they don't win, though.

American culture? New Orleans?....American culture?

High culture, ha, I'm picturing an old yinzer, smoking a cigarette, and deploying their parking chair... and then going back inside to open an IC light. That said, I'm guessing your addressing the nice theater and museum scene and things like that, which I totally agree with.
Education: Pittsburgh (CMU, Pitt, Duquesne, etc.) vs. New Orleans with Tulane and...???
Economy: Pittsburgh (more diversified despite having been way too reliant upon one industry in the past).
Cost-of-Living: Pittsburgh (housing is dirt cheap here except for the urban core)
Crime: Pittsburgh (Property crime is high in both cities. Violent crime is higher in New Orleans, and in Pittsburgh random violent crime almost never happens).

That's exactly what I'm talking about. And Pittsburgh ain't the only city with ****kicker townies, just the only one singled out for it.
I like the culture and food of New Orleans, but that said I think Pittsburgh would be more liveable. Also I worry climate change(if the worser effects of it are to occur) won't be friendly to New Orleans, along with the risk of hurricanes I also don't like.

I would likely choose Pittsburgh as well. New Orleans will be underwater if things keep going the way they are.
