Bend has experienced rapid growth over the last 20 years, almost doubling in size since 2000. The city is highly regarded for its Downtown, brew scene, and access to outdoor recreation.
What small towns around the US do you see becoming the next Bend?
Desuchetes county grew by 71.8% (+82,886) since 2000
Yeh but its merely a tract growth, and although its a 72% increase over 20 years whoch rivals some southern counties. How much did its economy grow? Numerically small still.
All of those towns have a Bend vibe to them.....cool downtown areas full of shops, restaurants, and breweries with easy access to the outdoors. I've been to all except Flagstaff. I think out of the bunch that Coeur d' Alene will grow the quickest, as its already part of a much larger area population-wise and both CDA and neighboring Spokane have been popping up on various 'hottest housing markets', 'next boom town' type articles over the last year. It has the best access to both nature and amenities of a traditionally larger area due to Spokane's influence. CDAs only issue will be running out of land as its completely surrounded by other towns and the lake/national forest.
Bozeman is a cool town, but unless you bring a bank account full of funds with you I've heard housing is either non-existent or too expensive for most locals anymore.
Missoula is pretty isolated, but maybe that would be a draw for a lot of people.
Wenatchee, which most people probably haven't heard of, is in a pretty stunning location but again is fairly isolated. I could see people from Seattle moving that way to get out of the city.

The term boom can still be applied to places undergoing rapid population growth for reasons other than economic growth. Bend definitely fits.
