It would be interesting as 2022 progresses that Birmingham AL/Baltimore MD is competing to take over the nation's new murder capitol even St Louis is typically around 10 to 15 homicides by mid to late January but 8 around this time is something never seen since 2014 and 2016. Baltimore is just crazy with the recent triple homicide/mass shooting

That's not interesting, that's sickening.

I'm not obviously overhyping homicides or crime but it is sickening to see that Baltimore saw a increase in murders in 2021 than in 2020 one of the few cities to see homicide declines even as murders went up across the nation as a whole. And with the continued population loss of Baltimore city only time will tell if the city needs to follow a St Louis style format.

Wheres your source? Also, is San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City an MSA anymore? I thought SF and Oakland combined into one MSA.

Safe wise is the source.

We have to consider the context of our ranking. Jurisdictions can make a city or metro seem different than what it is.

Flint had a bad start of the year: 6 homicides until January 16th. A 100% increase over 2021 which was a bad year: link.
