A pair of killings on the Peninsula recently. One was the 23 y/o brother of Cleveland Browns LB Jemeriah Owusu-Koramoah found dead in his Hampton home, no cause of death revealed. Brings their total to 9.

A teen was shot and killed in the Aqueduct apartments in the Denbigh section of the city. Rushed to the hospital last night where he later died. That brings their total to 3. This is similar to its 2020 numbers in the beginning, where it only had 3 through April as well. It picked up drastically once May hit, 2-6 murders a month till December and ended with 25. So we will see if this is a change of pace.

Portsmouth hasn't had a murder since February after having 7 murders that same month. It's very unpredictable patterns. VB has caught up to them in that time.

Norfolk - 16 | 6.7
Richmond - 15 | 6.6
Portsmouth - 9 | 9.1
Virginia Beach - 9 | 1.9
Hampton - 9 | 6.5
Chesapeake - 8 | 3.2
Fairfax County - 6 | 0.5
Roanoke - 5 | 4.9
Petersburg - 5 | 14.9
Newport News - 3 | 1.6
Hopewell - 2 | 8.6
Suffolk - 1 | 1
Alexandria - 1 | 0.6

Nah as of right now QC is on pace for ~59 or so. 2014 was the record low with 42 or 47, depending on the source you trust. Clt has never had below 50 in the modern era though so '14 is recognized as the record low year...

Just yesterday the mayor himself said that Richmond is at 14 so far this year. The weekly reports put Richmond at 13 as of April 3rd, so that means they must've counted the Shockoe Bottom murder from Sunday and now with the North side shooting, it might actually be 14. I counted 15 because I didn't think they'd count the Sunday homicide in the weekly report. Where's the other one?

Columbus, OH at 28 through yesterday, which is a 50% drop from the same date last year.

That's looking good for Columbus, especially compared to last year. Cleveland was doing OK as well up until a rash of killings (upwards of 10 in the last week ... all seemingly separate incidents) that took it from about 30 to 40, which now is higher pace than last year and putting it on pace to be around the 190 mark from two years ago, but way too early to tell what will happen.

Suburban Cuyahoga homicides, which took a huge jump last year, do seem to be way down so far this year.

Minneapolis 21

Ahead of last year's pace when the city had 97 homicides..
Minneapolis usually sees the murder count increase substantially in the summer. I keep thinking the city will return to a murder rate seen prior to 2020 but not looking likely as this is the 3rd year in a row its increased. about 200 homicides in the 2020s..

2019 48
2020 83 with 40 in June, July and August alone
2021 97
2022 looking like it will surpass 100

The city definitely needs more police as there are 300 fewer than prior to George Floyd's death. And just prior to his death the city had requested an additional 400 officers..
Minneapolis needs about 700 more police officers to meet the police departments needs...

It's ridiculous. I was hoping this was the year things would change for the better.
