A couple of things to consider with the South is one, the pretty big military presence in many states. That can play a part in the notion of acceptance or if it being more common, as you will likely see more interracial couples within/affiliated with the military. I think that is also where the West gets the same notion of acceptance, especially considering in many cases there are more black men in terms of ratio to black women.
Second, transplants of both races to the South may bring an openness of such relationships to the region. In turn, that may increase the probability of such relationships. For instance, I know of people originally from Upstate NY that moved to VA and NC in that type of relationship.
So, may be a couple of things to consider within the discussion.
Not sure how to rank NE and Midwest but both are below the south and west.
As mentioned above, none of these regions are monolithic. Mississippi (at least the parts I went to) seemed to have the least acceptance of any place I’ve seen. The few I saw there were in the casinos of Biloxi where a lot of the population are tourists. And I think it was between whites, Asians and Hispanics. Really don’t even recall seeing a white/black couple. I wasn’t giving it much attention, but I definitely noticed the lack of interracial couples.
That’s a huge contrast from Louisiana. Atleast central Louisiana (again, I’m talking Lafayette, Opelousas, Crowley, and so forth). That area might be where it’s the norm more so then any place I’ve been. Northern Louisiana might be more similar to Mississippi do even in states it’s not monolithic.
By the way, people saying that “them existing doesn’t mean they’re accepting”. Although that’s true to a point, an interracial couple has more of a sense of security walking around seeing that they aren’t the only one.

Yea definitely agree. Seen it in Beaufort, South Carolina. My uncle is married to some light skinned-non black woman. Hes also a raging republican...

You cannot have B/W couples without a significant population of Blacks. Here in the west there are far more Asians than Blacks, and noticeable numbers of White/Asian couples. Finding a B/W couple takes some work. In our city of 65,000 it's 33% Asian, 1.6% Black. There are more Blacks in some parts of California but not enough to offset the lack of them in Oregon and Washington. Even Oakland is down to 22% with many leaving.

Forget about dating. In Mississippi people seem not to socialize much across racial lines. I saw too many establishments that were either all black or all white for it to be a coincidence. That's just my experience from a one week visit.

This is kind of ironic, as my dad who grew up in a segregated Delta town actually grew up on a plantation(sharecropper), where he interacted with the owner's son and would shop at stores owned by Jews and Chinese. This was in the 1950's and 1960's. So, it depends on what, where and when in regards to MS.

black and white interracial couples in the south seem to be more popular in the poor south.
Northeast whites who are by far from Europe tend to be very cultural and stay within their ethnic group. I mean growing up in NYC in a white area as a black man I have yet to even see someone who is mixed of Russian and Italian.

As a Black Millenial who's born & raised in Mississippi & traverse the entore state except Natchez; plenty of mixed B/W couples throughout the state. Most noticebly the Coast ( Gulfport-Biloxi metro for the unaware). It's not extraordinary rare unless your in the mose predominate rural B/W areas of the state due to obvious demographics. The urban areas of the state have mixed couples in various places.
