I haven't been to Charlotte in a while, but I've heard the nightlife scene there has improved dramatically in recent years. I'm wondering how people think the nightlife scene currently compares to Charleston. Obviously Charlotte is a much bigger city, but I also know Charleston punches above its weight for nightlife. So which one do you currently think is better in terms of bars, pubs, clubs, walkable nightlife districts, etc.?

I should also add - what are your favorite nightlife districts in each city?

But Charlotte is a much bigger city so it offers more variety.

Charleston by miles from my experience. The only leg up Charlotte would have would be in big events, but when it comes restaurants, bars, clubs Charleston is just much more of a "fun" oriented city. As an added bonus the beach is only 30 minutes away from the city center.

was literally just back from Charleston today lol. The nightlife was great and busy -- saw people lining up to get into bars at multiple places. All the bars/clubs have to close at 2am, a bit early but there are plenty of options on King St.

Only been there once but Charleston seemed to rival Nashville as a top destination for bachelorette parties.

Does Charlotte close later than 2am?

Anyway, it sounds like most people think Charleston is better - so was the person who told me Charlotte's nightlife has gotten a lot better recently wrong?

Charleston is better for bachelorette parties. The city is safer and more walkable.

Charlotte is fine with nightlife--but is not a destination for folks who do not live there. Like you would not say "hey, let's get several friends together and fly to Charlotte and go out and party, drink and go wild."

Maybe with some folks, of course, but just not on a massive scale to make Charlotte a "nightlife destination."

Charleston is original with its history, 1800 charm, quaintness meets modern and bougie, and hotspots for dining and drinks.

Plus, Folley Beach is about a 20 minute drive away, and Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach areas are within an hour-sh both north/south of the city.

Charleston is a cool city with a lot to do at night, despite it being much smaller than Charlotte.
