Young professionals are gonna be more interested in making money rather than what's trendy. You can't make money in Miami with its garbage wages. You can bring your wealth to Miami; you make money in a place like Dallas, get 6 figures and be in a good position to take a paycut in Miami or work in a niche field or even retire.

Just saw this post. You can certainly make 6 figures in Miami...it's really not that difficult at all if you have the right skills in tech/finance/medicine/law or even construction. This opinion that people aren't making money in Miami simply isn't true. Where we can agree however is that there are certainly easier places for one to start their career, but once one has a little experience, the choice is simple.

Exactly. With a few years under ones belt (think someone in their mid 30s) an RN can make 6 figures. An engineer can make 6 figures. A project manager can make 6 figures.

Plenty of my friends in finance do quite well in Miami as do ones in law and medicine. Depends on ones field.

Right. In reality, one can achieve this in any major city. Moving to Dallas won't magically turn a person into a 6-figure earning tech expert, much like moving to Miami won't suddenly turn someone into a gas station clerk.

But on average, a tech expert is going to have more disposable income living in Dallas versus Miami.

Tech is not the only high paying field (even though it’s the only one mentioned on CD) and QOL competes with COL….but IF one is already in or seeking a tech (and/or F1000 corporate) career they will definitely have more opportunities in Dallas.

Yes. No debate there. But...

This part here... I've been offered some very lucrative positions in Texas, and quite frankly, I just cannot see myself replicating my QOL there versus what I have come to enjoy in Florida, making a decent income (not in "tech," unless EE is considered "tech?",) now working from home, despite the increase in disposable income. It's all relative to what one seeks. People in various fields can make as much money in Miami (or Florida as a whole) as almost anywhere else in the country. All boils down to what one is willing to sacrifice in return for location.

I only mentioned tech specifically because the person I was responding to did in his example.

The links I posted were for Electrical Engineering though. I posted those because I am well-versed in that industry.
