We are going by music scene, bars and clubs, and overall energy of the two.

My gut feeling, is that Saint Louis would win this between these 2 cities. As it has more vibrant neighborhoods and suburbs with a lot of bars and clubs, vs. Memphis.

Not to say Memphis is totally bad, but it doesn't have as much interesting nightlife areas. I know there's Beale Street and also Midtown, and I guess the area near University of Memphis would have some bars as well. But yeah overall, St. Louis wins this. It even has a light rail system(Metrolink) that covers more ground, vs. the streetcar in Memphis.

St. Louis might win due to its metro's size advantage, but on the other hand Memphis is kinda known for that sort of thing.

Memphis has better music festivals. Memphis has better strip clubs I hear. St. Louis would run circles around Memphis club and bar scene. The vibe of St Louis bar scene is totally under rated, cool, diverse and laid back. Memphis is too rachet.

St. Louis has a wider variety of nightlife than Memphis does.

Saint Louis overall, but Memphis's Beale Street is the best of any nightlife district in either city.

I’d think both size and income. Nightlife costs money. St Louis is a higher income place and has more people with disposable income. As the more dominant city, I would also expect that St Louis would draw from a larger area. Plus Memphis is only 200 miles from Nashville and that’s going to draw people away from Memphis.

St Louis definitely has much more diversity of bars, clubs and night life.

Memphis is a musically rich destination, with a ton of historical value with its contributions to rock, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, more. As-a-result, lots of cool bars and clubs have come and gone over the years. Memphis still has a lot of good bars, and a few hotspots today.

But St Louis has 2.8 million in the region, while Memphis has half, at 1.4 million. So St Louis naturally will have a lot more variety and interesting diversity.

If I had to pick a place for one-two nights of nightlife fun I’d go to Memphis…it’s famous. But STL is lots bigger and has more varied nightlife so I choose the Missouri city.

Memphis is better and more popular. St. Louis has nothing like Beale Street.
