That’s not really saying much since every 6m+ metro has a better skyline than LA. haha
Love the city but downtown sure isn’t impressive.
You can argue aesthetics but by numbers LA has the 5th largest skyline in the country and feels every bit of that. LA skyline only looks “small” because the rest of the city is vast.
1.) New York / Los Angeles*
2.) Chicago / Dallas
3.) San Francisco / Houston
4.) Philadelphia / Atlanta
5.) Seattle / Phoenix
* LA is overall an amazing metropolitan area
At first, I was surprised to see Atlanta mentioned as underwhelming, but I can see an argument for this. Atlanta's downtown could use some new towers to fill in the gaps. Seems like Midtown gets most of the attention. Ditto Phoenix...smh.

Atlanta’s skyline is very linear. Downtown has several new towers under construction. Midtown is exploding. The city is by far one of the most impressive and fastest growing skylines in the country.

Yeah not sure how anyone could call it "underwhelming."

But a city of 12m+ should be better, it’s skyline shouldn’t pale in comparison to a city half the size (Miami.)

Miami, like other east coast cities, doesn't have the obstruction of natural scenery as a consideration in building. Big reason why L.A. didn't have any beyond city hall for many years.

Also, Miami skyline is very linear because of the geography. If everyone has to live near the coast building up is the only solution

Miami‘s metro is larger than Dubai’s… you see how silly that argument sounds now?
There is very little economic pressure that requires/incentivizes LA to build skyscrapers at the rate Miami does. If there was, it would have done such. Apples to oranges economics
