Well, looking at census data. Zip codes 20019, 20020, and 20032 which represent all of East of the River DC gained 10,246 people from the year 2010-2020. DC proper in total gained 87,822 people from 2010-2020. I don't think homicides and crime is a deterrent for people in DC compared to Chicago. There are areas of the Southside of Chicago that look completely deserted. I think a huge factor is most cities are gaining their Black population and growing from an influx of other races. Zip codes 20019, 20020, and 20032 grew overwhelmingly from young Black professionals from 2010-2020. That is not happening in Chicago compared to DC which may be playing a role on the Southside.

Well not a very large city or metro area, but Shreveport is really struggling with daily shootings, and in fact this is the 2nd day in a row in which someone is fatally shot.

In fact, only Seattle, and Shreveport are the 2 cities that will break their all time homicide records this year, with just a month and 14 days until the end of the year.

DC's year from hell continues. It's now at 247, one short of the 20 year high.

Damn, this year can't end soon enough for the district of crime. Not surprising that DC was going to have a homicide rate not seen since the 90s, but still shocking to see.

For better or worse, DCs murder rate in the 90s was so catastrophically high this won't be the worst in the city's history.

Yeah, it’s not even close with 100,000 more people in 2023 than the record in 1991. DC in 1991 had 489 murders with a population under 600,000 people.
