Miami crime map has huge update, the city has seen 27 homicides from July 1 to today, one in Little Havana yesterday brings the city to 53.

https://www.crimemapping.com/map/fl/miami-dadecounty

The map only has data from the past six months, so keeping track year round is hard. However, the map had 25 between Jan 1 to June 31st. The mayor of Miami has claimed that the city has only had 27 murders in all of 2023, the map (which is tracked by the MDPD) proves otherwise.

Jan 1 to Dec 6 totals:

1. MTL- 33 (1.6/100,000)- higher than normal but still "decent"
2. Toronto- 61 (2.01/100,000)
3. Miami- 53 (11.8/100,000)* - two murders in Miami city boundaries were investigated by the MDPD- map also counts "justified murders" but those terms are always bended.

Detroit also had a population of over 1.5M people in 1966. Still good to see the decrease though.

Losing that many people so quickly kinda explains things.

DC is at 254. Terrible, but at least the pace appears to have slowed modestly in recent weeks. Hard to tell if that is due to the cold weather or signs that the city's insane homicide rate is starting to fall.

There is a tiny chance it could come in under the 2002 level of 264 homicides. Although it is more likely this will be highest number since the 301 killed in 1997.

That's pretty impressive especially when you consider the city has a relatively high poverty rate.
