And DC! Wtf. Rich city and little boys playing pop thy neighbor like it’s a video game. Grow the F up. The others might have an ounce of context, but DC.
The perpetrators and victims of homicides in DC are very much not rich.

Baltimore 262 rate 46.04
Cleveland 160 rate 43.59
DC 273 rate 43.26
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is reporting 158 murders for 2023 overall.

If we use St. Louis' official population in the last census of 301,578, that puts it at a rate of 52.39. If we use the last population estimate, which I'm frankly skeptical of, of 286,578, then it has a rate of 55.13. Either way, this is St. Louis lowest overall number of murders since 2013 when it had 120. We barely beat 2014 which had 159.

That is likely the case for most homicides in all big cities.

Final 2023 number for now
Im guessing the rate is in the 6 range using 2023 population estimates
Edit: 6.3 using 2023 estimates

Wonder what's the rate for the other suburban counties. MoCo has around 30 total IIRC.

And this is already Baltimore's best year since 2014. Just imagine how bad things were.

Hopefully the downward trend continues in 2024.

Which I keep thinking that this just unacceptable for the richest, most powerful nation to let continue to happen in its capitol city. Cannot the federal government and local law somehow find a way to work together to effectively combat this level of crime? And the tent cities, and homeless under the bridges, etc. I love DC but all this has really become a stain on it as a world city.
