I wasn't surprised by the list but wondering why Los Angeles and Orange County or Washington DC and Bethesda-Gaithersburg-Frederick were separated? Same with the boroughs of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

In the case of DC, those are technically separate Metro Divisions that make up a greater metropolitan area.
Even locally at times DC, Arlington/NOVA, and Bethesda-Gaithersburg-Frederick are some times considered by some separate housing "markets" within a greater metro region, much like you're seeing with OC and LA separation, or the multiple boroughs of NYC separated from Nassau County.
no, the reason why that picture was taken is because it's not normal---I have lived in NYC and I own a home on Oahu and Honolulu is just wayyyyyy more expensive for everyday things to the point of annoyance(and I guess it makes sense since everything is shipped there by boat)---not even close in my experience.
Chicago is not that expensive. It’s a great bargain. It’s similar COL to places like Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta but has an urban experience that’s basically 2nd to only New York.
