Hello,

I've been trying to google this info... but without avail.

Does anyone know the top 10 (or so) largest art museums in the usa?

The top three are:
1. The Met (NY)
2. The Getty (L.A.)
3. Philly Art Museum

Can someone complete this list?

I would thing the art museum at the Institute of Art in Chicago would be one of the largest in the country. It has over 300,000 works in it's collection.

Not sure if they're the largest but the MET, AIC and National are the most respected. I also think they're the largest.

looks like the "norman foster" wing is a complete rip off of Chicago's museum:

Interesting. The Philly Museum claims 225,000 works... and yet it's the third largest. The MFA claims over 400, 000.
I guess the statistics I read were based on building size.


There does not seem to be any definitive sources that answer my question out there. Oh well. Thanks to those that replied! Cheers.
