Which would you live in if you had a child and an income of around 150K combined?

If possible, I'd live in St. Louis city and send my kid to a private school or a charter or magnet. I adore some St. Louis neighborhoods. Well, a lot of them really.

I've never been to D.C. Seems like a nice enough town from what I've heard about it.

DC all day! More stuff to do! Cosmopolitan, diverse, upscale and vibrant. With 150, you could do it big on the east coast!

I would go with STL. Very urban, dense, and a ton to do. You will also have a lot more disposable income.

I would go with DC by a landslide. DC is changing a lot and has so much more to do. I've been to St Louis quite a few times when the StL Fire Dept was hiring. I ended up dropping out after making 4-5 trips to accomplish almost nothing. The city seemed like it was a mess financially and the FD was a bit racist against whites. The downtown was nice, but that's all I really liked.

DC is very cosmopolitan. It was a ton of different, and unique, neighborhoods. I've been there about 5 times in the last year and still have a bunch of things that I really want to do there. I should hopefully be moving in the next month or two to work for the DCFD.

The downtown was all you liked? The great thing about STL is its great neighborhoods throughout the city.

That's cool and good for St. Louis. But if 4 brokerage houses are considered a ton of jobs, then DC has a gigaton of jobs in a variety of fields.

Thats just an example. STL has a very diverse economy with its largest concentrations in Financial Services, Medical, Biomed, energy(3 of the 4 largest coal companies in the world are in STL), and education just to name a few.
