Can't agree with this! Cleveland's crime is concentrated mainly to the eastside. The eastside is easily one of the worst areas in the nation. But the metro is one of the safest Street smarts and you're good!

LOL gotta disagree here. At least in 2008, Newark is definitely safer than Compton (though neither one is exactly a gem).

rank city score
17 Compton, CA 229.22
24 Newark, NJ 177.47

Safest and Most Dangerous U.S. Cities, 2008 — Infoplease.com

I haven't seen anything that give info to the contrary. And as far as violent crime goes (which is what matters when we're discussing safety), Compton has higher annual average rates of murder, rape, robbery and assault:

city murder rape robbery assault

Compton 42 30 500 1106
Newark 31 27 492 499

Also according to this site, a person's chances of becoming a victim in Newark are 1 in 95, where in Compton they are 1 in 60. Detroit I didn't even bother to look up b/c I know its worse already, but I was sure that Newark was safer than Compton. I know you tend to think Compton's danger is exaggerated b/c your experiences there weren't too bad, but the numbers don't lie.

Fresno has a lower per capita murder rate than San Francisco or Sacramento. So you better put those 2 higher up your list than Fresno.

2008 homicides:
Fresno (population 475,723) 40 homicides
Sacramento (population 467,065) 49 homicides
San Francisco (population 798,144) 98 homicides

Palm trees don't mean squat. Just cuz a place has palm tees dosen't make it safe. A palm tree won't save you from a bullet.
