Never considered them the South until I joined this site. I love Atlanta, New Orleans, Miami, Raleigh, Nashville, Orlando, Jacksonville, and if we're getting technical with the exact term, Washington DC too (And Baltimore also along with the rest of MD, VA, & WV). Not a big fan of the Northeast, Midwest, or the West either, all of them to me are like the South, and to me at least they aren't important.

The South doesn't exist, in my opinion (to me at least).

RVA resident and proud of the Southern culture that still exists here to an extent. No negative connotations in my mind at all. When I hear the word Southern I think of laid back, friendly, but proud people, sweet tea, and slow summer days... oh and blues, bluegrass, Southern Rock, and many other forms of great music. Each to their own. The word Northerner is kind of an insult down this way so I guess I can't complain if others feel the same way about the South

HUH???

I'm trying to understand what you're saying, but I can't because regardless of how you feel about the country being divided amongst regions; the cultural differences amongst these regions vary.

It's not that this country is intentionally divided; it's just people like infamous post and the other people on this site who exist and constantly spread ignorance which creates division amongst the regions.

Have to admit that is hilarious, but it could easily be upstate NY too.

whether it's an insult depends on how it's said. if a northerner talks about it, usually snobby, then they want to try to elevate their own self esteem in the bankrupt state they come from by implying that people in the south are dumb rednecks driving around in 50s era pickup trucks... little do they realize we're the fastest growing region in the country and fortune 500 companies are seeming to love it, along with rolls royce owners and many pro athletes and musicians seem to come from the south, popular culture looks to be leaning more south than north today at least in the hip hop industry.

BS, and dont bring me up in your little posts to other people either. Also learn how to read and spell, my name is Infamous Past not Infamous Post, its not even that hard of a name to spell and you still got it wrong..

I didnt create any regional "tension" between anyone. You yourself have stated you have southern pride, you create regional tension when you refer to us as "northerners". Why do you think people laugh at the south so much? You country folks are still living in the 1800's and cant get that chip off your shoulders

It couldn't be differences in state and local politics which divide it today and historically now could it...

I moved from Va to NC. Virginians fade their accents and cling on to the little shred of dignity that they have left. Richmond is by far one of the most backwards cities yet. Perhaps I am biased, but when you have the Capitol of the Confederacy tieing knots with the Tea Party then nothing progressive or diverse can come from it.

I lived there all 20 years of my life. Moving to NC was the best move I made!

Yes NC is way different. It is the "New South". Besides we now earned the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte!

the fact that you think the south is still living in the 1800s shows to us how ignorant you are, and why we laugh at you northerners whose only comeback ever is that "we're still living in the 1800s," because that's just about all you can say to hold on to the shred of majesty you think you have in a region that's so yesterday. withering withering withering is basically what's happening to 95% of your region.
