My husband and I have decided to chuck everything in Indianapolis and head elsewhere, we're totally open! We just want to live somewhere beautiful that could possibly work out long term if we like it (good COL, jobs, etc.)
I've got my eye on the Denver area (particularly Colorado Springs), and also Salt Lake City area as my top picks. We really wanted "beach" but I just can't find an area that seems suitable for the rest of our "wants".
We are 30, no kids yet, love the outdoors (not skiers though, not winter lovers but I'm sure it's gorgeous with the mountains). We're willing to totally start over job wise, I would eventually like to start my own company (creative arts) and perhaps my husband will too (marketing, web, etc.)
Can anyone here help me compare Utah and Colorado, specifically Denver/Colorado Springs with SLC and surrounding area?
SLC has the whole Mormon thing going and is, on the whole, a more conservative town. Denver is much bigger than SLC, too. They are both beautiful areas, however, and depending on what you're looking for you might enjoy both.

Sort of. Salt Lake City itself is very liberal, as is Park City. But the rest of Utah is very conservative.
I've spent considerable time in both Denver and in SLC. Both of these cities offer astounding natural beauty, although I must give the edge to SLC in this area ... the towering Wasatch Mtns are truly a sight to behold ... not to say that the mtns ringing Denver are not beautiful, because they certainly are. Denver is obviously a much larger city and offers many more amenities: large employment base, colleges & universities, great nightlife, vast suburban areas to suit most any taste. SLC is in the process of "coming into it's own" and is experiencing rapid growth. Salt Lake City is absolutely "gorgeous", if you don't the MAJOR INFLUENCE of the LDS CHURCH ( Mormon ) that seems to loom large everywhere you go! ( Note: I have nothing against the LDS church, I just don't care to be in a place where a presence is that strongly displayed )
