It's hard to identify those who came out of Tennessee since many were born in other states but didn't become famous until they moved to Tennessee and got their big break in Nashville (country) or Memphis (rock and blues). But here's a list I can think of off the top of my head which doesn't include a host of musicians--country and otherwise--from elsewhere but who have made Nashville their home. In parentheses is their hometown or where they became famous. Whether or not they're "the best" is purely subjective.
  • Allman Brothers (Nashville)
  • Aretha Franklin (Memphis)
  • BB King (Memphis)
  • Bessie Smith (Chattanooga)
  • Booker T Jones (Memphis)
  • Carl Perkins (Memphis)
  • Carl Smith (Knoxville)
  • Chet Atkins (Knoxville)
  • Dinah Shore (Nashville)
  • Dolly Parton (Knoxville)
  • Elvis Presley (Memphis)
  • Isaac Hayes (Memphis)
  • Jerry Lee Lewis (Memphis)
  • Johnny Cash (Memphis)
  • Justin Timberlake (Memphis)
  • Kenny Chesney (Knoxville)
  • Miley Cyrus (Nashville)
  • Pat Boone (Nashville)
  • Rita Coolidge (Nashville)
  • Roy Acuff (Knoxville)
  • Roy Orbison (Memphis)
  • Rufus Thomas (Memphis)
  • Tina Turner (Memphis)

Hmmm. Colorado is a tough one...
Definately NOT John Denver.
From, looking on the wiki list, I guess I'd choose Glenn Miller (if anyoone on this forum knows who he is) although it looks like he's not actually FROM here, he just went to school here.

We're not so affluent in our production of music, or cuisine, but we sure have some ROCKIN' MOUNTAINS.
