Just about all of the 50 largest cities in the US are great for foreigners but in terms of the best...especially if you want to experience the US at it's best!

New York
San Francisco
Seattle
Columbus
Miami
--and maybe even Salt Lake City

NYC
DC
LA
San Francisco
Chicago

Only cities I would ever recommend seeing unless they want more vacation, nightlife, or leisure then Honolulu, Las Vegas, and Miami can be thrown in but if we're talking about our proudest most reputable most showcase cities then the big 5.

I'm not sure that would be in my top five suggestions for people visiting Ohio.

Top five for foreigners

1. New York City
2. Washington, D.C.
3. San Francisco
4. Seattle
5. Las Vegas

NYC (duh)
LA (definitive west coast city)
DC (why not the nation's capital to learn about American History?)
Chicago (capitol of inland America)
Boston (higher learning, history)

It sucks that it should just be five because SF deserves to be in this list too.

Foreigners I deal with usually want to see these (cities):

1. NYC (Roamtic, Nostagic)
2. LA ("Celebs")
3. Las Vegas (obvious)
4. DC (White House)
5. Miami (Beach)

1. New York City: The iconic American city. Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park, the Met, Times Square, etc.
2. Washington, DC: The seat of government, the National Mall with the monuments and memorials, the Smithsonian museums
3. LA: The west coast lifestyle, hollywood, celebs, etc.
4. New Orleans: Possibly the most unusual and distinct city in America. Great food and architecture.

5: The four above would be my reccomendations to anyone. For the fifth spot, it would depend on the person: for a person who loves big cities I would say Chicago or maybe San Fran. For someone who like nightlife Miami or Las Vegas. For someone interested in American history either Boston or Philly. For someone who wanted to see a smaller place, maybe Charleston or Sante Fe. And it is possible someone would want to go to Disney, so I'd send them to Orlando. For a music lover possibly Nashville or Austin.
