Well, the problem is there are not any statements produced to back up strictly European travels to individual cities in America.

However, there are many studies that show overall overseas travels from all countries. This is pretty on point with what I was saying because the same cities visited by Europeans are the same cities visited by other countries.

Most Visited US Cities by Foreign Travelers - Travelers Digest

I named out 8 out of the top 10. This proves my point.

The funny thing is, I don't believe it for one second.

If that poster is from Europe, then I'm from New Jersey.

It actually does. Miami is crawling with Europeans 24/7 365 days a year.

NYC - our biggest and most exciting city
Chicago - our "All American" metropolis
San Francisco - cosmopolitan mixed with west coast beauty
Charleston - classic southern flavor
Vegas - American freak show and desert landscapes

I think this list is about "if a European has a limited time and/or budget to check out America, where would you point them? And your answer is Savannah and Charleston? I suppose those two cities could be good candidates for some particular Europeans, though a majority would likely go check out NYC, D.C., SF, and even places like Orlando and Vegas that are faux urban tourist traps geared for tourism....
Well I mean if they came to the US for TOURIST purposes then yeah, it's good that Orlando and Vegas are faux urban tourist traps. Orlando's not really an "EVEN that place" type of city when it comes to tourism.

My top 5 would be:

1) NYC- nation's biggest most dynamic city.
2) SF- cool geography, interesting neighborhoods.
3) Chicago- great city to spend a couple days in.
4) DC- The actual city itself isn't that amazing, but it does have the best collection of free museums in the nation. Plus lots of world famous sites. More of an intellectual vacation.
5) LA- This is really a grudging suggestion, I really have no desire to visit the city, but it is huge, world famous and has amazing weather. (Personally, I would sub in Boston)

Obviously, I am biased toward more urban cities.

In reality, outside of NYC most US cities aren't so amazing from an urban prospective to justify a trip around the world. Hence, foreigners are heavy on warm weather destinations: Miami, Orlando, Vegas, which personally hold little appeal to me.

I'd say as a rule of thumb one major city in each area of the country at a time.

For starters...

East Coast - NYC
West Coast - San Francisco
Midwest - Chicago
Southeast - New Orleans
Southwest - San Antonio

I've been to every one except for New Orleans, that's my next destination.
