Seattle, Boston, Minneapolis, Philly and Miami I would say are the next 5.
Id be embarrassed to send them anywhere in the South, and even Miami is a stretch. If I had to replace Miami, id do it with Denver.
New Orleans? Nashville? Memphis? I feel like those are worthwhile to see and definitely uniquely American... They may not be an urban-planners dream but most foreigners don't really care. They are not looking to see a duplicate of their hometown, they are looking to see America. Kansas City is not really in the South but also a worthwhile city to see.
And Seattle, Boston and Minneapolis? What is your goal, bore them to death?
I guess I'd want to show them a little more diversity in American cities. My list would be:
1. New York City
2. Los Angeles
3. New Orleans
4. Chicago (or DC) (or Philly) (or Boston) - this one is kind of interchangeable, though DC is unique with being the capital. Old, historic cities with a lot to do at the center.
5. Houston or Dallas - they're definitely gonna want to see some Texas!

I refuse to show any foreigner the state of Texas.
Theres a good chance, politically-speaking, that they would much more enjoy Seattle, Boston and Minneapolis over anything in the South. Especially if im showing anyone from Canada, Australia, the UK or Europe. Im sorry but im not picking Dallas or Houston over any of the above three.
Thats what I love about LA, its more tough, gritty, and rugged than what people think.
Your right. L.A would be 6th only because some ppl might be disappointed that the whole city is not Hollywood lol but I love the Lakers and I want to visit L.A. real bad
1. NYC
2. Los Angeles
3. San Francisco
4. Chicago
5. Houston
